Welcome to all the newest additions to District 10- State Changes
Now seemed as good a time to put this out there as any. Per direction form Williamsport, and the East Region, the Little League State association was tasked with realigning and balancing out the districts for all of Little League baseball and Softball for the whole state of Connecticut.
In past years we've seen the state establish 10 Districts in 1958. CT then went to 11 in 1959. There was little movement until we expanded to 12 districts in 2014.
With recent changes, and overall league numbers changing, especially since COVID, it was decided that we would revert back to a 10 District format. With that a committee was formed to decide on the correct number of districts to best serve the state as a whole. This committee included 4 District Administrators, and after a ton of back and forth between 8-10-12 districts a consensus was agreed upon to condense to 10 districts. Once that was voted upon and approved by the state DA's it then became time to decide how to do that. A new committee was formed with 5 existing DA's to look over and balancing out the 138 leagues within the state of CT.
To say that it was a process devoid of any conflicts would be a lie. But we came up with a final plan that needed approvals. Now honestly I would have loved to increase the leagues in D10 more, it just wasn't to be. Yes your very own DA was on both committee's.
Now that that was all said an done, Let's all welcome into the new and improved D10 the leagues from East Haddam/Moodus, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook.
We had a few district meetings already and I can say that I am looking forward to working with these leagues during regular season, tournament time, and fall ball. This now grow D10 to 15 leagues.
With the decrease in Districts we will see a change in the formatting of Sectional play. The State has also moved to have all 5 teenage levels of tournament play, as well as 9-11 SB move directly to State. As such there will be no District All Stars for 9-11 Softball, Intermediate (50/70) Baseball, Junior Baseball, Junior Softball, Senior Baseball, or Senior Softball. I fully expect to see these divisions increase in participation here in D10, as now every league can have a chance to compete for a State Title.
